What parents and students say

★★★★★Parent
At a slight crisis point with a previous tutor, I fell upon Miranda's tutor page 3 months before my daughter's GCSE exams. From the first conversation, Miranda was organised, professional and clearly had numerous structures and ways of helping a student progress to achieve the highest quality of work. My daughter absolutely loved her sessions, regularly coming downstairs afterwards to say she had learnt so much and it made so much sense. She went from hating the texts to loving them. As a teacher myself, I know the challenges and I have to say I was so impressed in only 3 months with the change and development both in confidence and ability. Thank you Miranda! My son is coming your way next 😂

★★★★★Student
Miranda is an exceptional tutor. She breaks concepts down clearly, tailors each lesson to the student and genuinely builds confidence in analysis and techniques, which made my writing much more sophisticated in the exam. Her sessions helped build my confidence and feel fully prepared before entering the exam. She made even the most difficult texts easy to analyse, which helped me achieve excellent results in my GCSEs.

I'm a qualified English teacher with over 15 years of teaching experience and more than 10 years of tutoring experience, helping students build confidence, improve their writing and achieve their potential.

My story

My teaching journey began in 2007, when I moved to Japan to teach English as a second language. I later taught in South Korea and Italy, gaining experience with students from a wide range of backgrounds and developing a teaching style that is patient, adaptable and engaging.

After returning to the UK, I completed my PGCE and gained Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) while teaching at a secondary school in Buckinghamshire. I then joined an Outstanding secondary school in the London Borough of Hounslow, where I spent seven years teaching English and taking on a number of leadership responsibilities.

Alongside teaching, I began tutoring students over 10 years ago, working with young people of all abilities to build confidence, strengthen their understanding of English and prepare them for GCSE success. Tutoring allowed me to work more closely with individual students, tailoring every lesson to their specific strengths, challenges and goals. Seeing the impact of this personalised approach confirmed just how transformative one-to-one support can be.

During my time in school, I also mentored trainee and early career teachers, led Key Stage 3 English, redesigned the entire KS3 English curriculum and served as Whole School Reading Lead, helping to improve literacy across every subject.

After a decade of balancing classroom teaching with private tutoring, I made the exciting decision in 2025 to establish English Tutoring with Miranda. My goal was simple: to create a tutoring service that combines the expertise of an experienced classroom teacher with the personalised support that only one-to-one and small-group tuition can offer.

Today, every lesson is carefully planned around the individual student, combining expert subject knowledge with clear explanations, targeted feedback and practical exam strategies that help students make genuine progress. Whether a student needs to rebuild confidence, secure a pass or aim for the very highest GCSE grades, my aim is always the same: to make English feel clearer, more enjoyable and ultimately more successful.
